Rogene Clay

Mrs. Rogene Clay, age 86, of Marianna, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at Baptist Hospital ­ East in Memphis.

Mrs. Clay, born Sept. 8, 1918, in Kansas City, Kan., was the daughter of Franklin Clay and Madge Haley Clay. She was a homemaker and business owner and was a Methodist by faith. Mrs. Clay is survived by a daughter, Janice Hammonds Webb of Memphis; two sons, Franklin Clay of Winnboro, La., and Leon Clay of Tupelo, Miss., a brother, Dr. Roger H. Howard of Provo, Utah; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivon N. Clay.

Funeral services for Mrs. Clay will be held on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Marianna with Rev. Jimmie Kirkwood officiating. Burial will follow in LaGrange Cemetery in LaGrange, under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of Marianna.


Billy F. Sawyers Jr.

Mr. Billy F. Sawyers Jr., age 37, of Forrest City, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at the NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Mr. Sawyers, born July 31, 1967, was the son of Billy Sawyers Sr. and Claudette Faughn Sawyers Callahan. He was a carpenter and a Presbyterian.

Mr. Sawyers is survived by his mother; his step-father, Johnny Callahan; two brothers, Jeff Sawyers of California and David Callahan of Illinois, and one sister, Tammy Watlington.

Visitation for Mr. Sawyers will be held on Wednesday Oct. 27, 2004, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Morgan Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Morgan Chapel with Rev. Douglas Swindle of Velvet Ridge officiating. Burial will follow at Loughridge Cemetery near Colt.
