Barrett Beshears was on the receiving end of two touchdown passes Tuesday night which helped the Forrest City eighth-graders to a season-ending 14-6 win over MacArthur.
Quarterback Joey Bonds hooked up with Beshears in the opening quarter for a 45-yard touchdown pass and Lee Smith added the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.
In the second it was Smith finding Beshears to complete a 50-yard halfback touchdown pass which gave Forrest City a 14-0 halftime lead.
MacArthur scored in the third to avoid being shutout.
Tuesday's victory gives the eighth-graders a 3-3 overall season record.
Chauncey Boles helped keep a late Forrest City drive alive with a long run for a first down.
"That kept us in control and allowed us to run out the clock," said eighth-grade coach Rich Trail.
*The seventh-grade Colts fell to MacArthur 12-0 Tuesday and ended the regular season at 3-2-1.
"The kids played hard for us each game and they improved each week," said Colts Coach Lewis Etheridge.
Etheridge singled out quarterback Barett Astin, Tevin Hughes and Clinton Sumpter on offense while recognizing Harrison Hargraves and Johnathan Norman on defense.
"Overall, it was good season," Etheridge said. "We had some good kids and if this group will stick it out and stay together, the future of Mustang football looks very good.
*The Forrest City Junior Mustangs will host West Memphis East Thursday night at Sam Smith for the annual Homecoming game.
The Junior Mustangs are 1-5 for the season with three games remaining to be played.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
FAYETTEVILLE --Fayetteville's top player, junior Rob Hudson, took advantage of the almost summer-like conditions Tuesday to post a swashbuckling 2-under par 68 at the Class AAAAA Boys State Golf Championships.
His score helped the Bulldogs past runner-up Jonesboro by four strokes and gave Fayetteville the Class AAAAA state championship.
Conway's Jason Cuthbertson shook off a double bogey to earn medalist honors with his 4-under par 66.
Forrest City freshman Matthew Howton shot an 81 and finished 27th overall out of 72 golfers from across the state. Against AAAAA-East golfers, Howton finished seventh.
"The course was tough and the greens were very slick," said Forrest City Coach Wally Rauth. "But Matthew played well and he handled his first trip to state with a lot of composure. He did a super job and he will will be able to use this as a springboard to his next three seasons at Forrest City."
Jonesboro's Willie Little shot a 73 and Stephen Cox carded a 75 to power Jonesboro to the second-place finish.
Jonesboro shot a 302 in the play-5, count-4 format to finish 4 shots behind Fayetteville.
Conway and Little Rock Catholic tied for third with a 306 followed by defending state champion Fort Smith Southside (310), Springdale (321), Cabot (328), Mountain Home (332), Benton (332), Sheridan (334), Bryant (336) and El Dorado (336).
Little finished tied for fifth individually while Cox was seventh, as both seniors garnered all-state honors. Klayton Seyler and Nathan French each shot a 77 for the Hurricane while freshman Joseph Boone carded an 87.
Jason Cuthbertson of Conway fired a 66 to take medalist honors while Fayetteville's Rob Hudson was second with a 68, followed by Jordan Payne of West Memphis (70).
*At Batesville, freshman Jared Wolf shot an 82 and Jeremy Luther added an 85 as Nettleton finished 10th at the Class AAAA state golf tournament Tuesday at the par-72 Eagle Mountain Golf Course.
Alma shot a 315 to win the state title, finishing 5 strokes ahead of AAAA-East champion Batesville on the wet course. Nettleton shot a 359 while Greene County Tech was 11th with a 387.
Wolf finished tied for 12th overall while Luther was tied for 16th. Also for the Raiders, Matt Hogan and Robby Weick each shot a 96 while Daran Jett carded a 108.
Blaine Tedder led GCT with an 86.
Ben Barr of Hot Springs Lakeside was the medalist after shooting a 1-under 71 while Zach Smith of Stuttgart took second with a 74.
Wynne will host the sixth annual Mid South Championship Marathon and Half-Marathon on Saturday, Nov. 6, at Yellowjacket Stadium.
Olympic pole vaulter Jillian Schwartz will fire the starting pistol.
The marathon is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. The 26.2 and 13.1 mile races draw entries from across the nation, including a few from overseas.
The race has grown steadily with more than 550 racers competing last year.
The race starts at 8 a.m. by the Wynne High School. A pancake breakfast for the public will be served during the race at the First United Methodist Church in Wynne.
