Ulysses Alaska Allen

Mr. Ulysses Alaska Allen, age 51, of Lewisville, Texas, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at Lewisville Medical Center in Lewisville, Texas.

Mr. Allen was born March 4, 1953, in Madison and was employed by the IBM Corporation in Dallas, Texas. He is survived by his father, Joe H. Allen of Chicago, Ill.; his wife, Connie Allen of Little Rock; a son, Eric Allen of Lewisville, Texas; two daughters, Sonya Allen of Lewisville, Texas and Laura Marcelle of Memphis; three brothers, Joseph T. Allen and Cota Allen both of Madison and Clifford Allen of Benton Harbor, Mich., and three grandchildren.

Graveside services for Mr. Allen will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Scott Bond Cemetery in Madison, with Rev. S.W. Baker officiating. Clay Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.


Walter S. Engler Sr.

Mr. Walter S. Engler Sr., age 91, of Wheatley, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, in Forrest City. Mr. Engler was born in the Posey community on Sept. 25, 1912, the son of Samuel Engler and Mary Gehring Engler. He was a Lutheran and a retired farmer.

Mr. Engler is survived by a son, Walter S. Engler Jr. of Wheatley; two daughters, Betty Engler and Ellen Engler both of Wheatley; a brother, A.C. "Dutch" Engler of Heber Springs; three sisters, Hilda Rhein of Mountain Home, Elizabeth Rhein of Stuttgart and Tillie Ellis of Rockwood, Tenn., and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Tichenor Engler in 2002.

Funeral services for Mr. Engler were held on Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at 11 a.m., in the Chapel of Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home in Brinkley with Bro. Carl Baldwin officiating. Burial followed in Johnston Cemetery in Wheatley.


Martha Alice Howard

Mrs. Martha Alice Howard, age 68, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, in Forrest City. Mrs. Howard was born Sept. 3, 1936, in Montgomery, Ala. and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Howard is survived by five sons, Jimmy Brown of Lexa, Terry Brown of Jonesboro, Michael Brown of Memphis, Johnny Howard of Austin, Texas and William Howard of Horn Lake, Miss.; six daughters, Mary Washington, Glaydes Jenkins and LaVerne Howard all of Forrest City, Bobbie Jones of Arlington, Texas, Josephine Ivy of Milwaukee, Wis., and Annie Cole of Lonoke; a brother, Joe Blevin of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Unity White and Annie Pearl Hill, both of Little Rock; 30 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation for Mrs. Howard will be held on Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at the Shady Grove M.B. Church at 1 p.m. with Rev. B.T. Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise Gardens Cemetery.
