Arthur Franks scored twice to lead the Forrest City seventh grade Colts to an opening season 16-0 win over West Memphis East Tuesday at Sam Smith.

Franks scored on a 30-yard run in the first half and then added a 23-yard touchdown run with 4:49 left to play in the second half.

He added the two point conversion after his first score and Kordarius Walker added the two-point run to make it 16-0.

Barrett Astin quarterbacked the Colts.

Kinneth Walker and Chris Barton each recovered fumbles while Shaderio Logan had a quarterback sack in the game.

"We have a good group of kids," said Colts Coach Lewis Etheridge. "They are eager to learn."

The seventh-graders will host Wynne on Tuesday, Sept. 14.

*The eighth-grade Colts weren't as fortunate, dropping their opening game 16-6 to West Memphis East.

East took an 8-0 lead with 4:39 to play in the second quarter using a one-yard touchdown run and the two-point conversion. That score held through halftime.

East added a second half score before Colts quarterback Joey Bonds found Barrett Beshears for a late touchdown pass.

"We moved the ball on offense, we just couldn't break the big run when we needed to," said coach Rich Trail. "On defense we gave up too many yards and too many points."

Lee Smith saw some action at quarterback in the game while running back Arsenio Clinton got most of the work from the backfield.

The Junior Mustangs will play at Wynne Thursday, Sept. 9, beginning at 7 p.m.

*At Wynne, the Forrest City junior varsity Mustangs, led by sophomore Wilson Parker at quarterback, fell to the Wynne junior varsity 14-6 at Yellowjacket Stadium.

Parker scored Forrest City's lone touchdown with less than 10 seconds to play in the game.

After a scoreless first half, Wynne took a 6-0 lead with a long touchdown run with 3:10 to play in the third quarter. The extra point attempt failed.

The Yellowjackets padded their lead at 14-0 with 4:52 to play in the game using a one-yard run and the two-point conversion.

Following Parker's touchdown, the Mustangs tried the on-sides kick, which was recovered by Richard Flenoy. The play was negated by a penalty.

The JV Mustangs will host Brinkley on Monday, Sept. 13, at Sam Smith.
