Play this weekend

It’s not all laughter at “The First Baptist of Ivy Gap,” after one  of the characters (Robbin Patton, seated) reveals that her son has been wounded while fighting in World War II. Other characters, standing from left, include Hannah Darby, Elizabeth Hodges, Ruth Ann Vowan and Kristen Akers. Not pictured is Liz Lindsey. Both performances, on Saturday and Sunday, are matinees, at 2 p.m. and will be presented at the East Arkansas Community College Fine Arts Center. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students with an ID and $5 for senior citizens. Crossroads banquet

The Crossroads Coalition held its seventh annual banquet and awards presentation Thursday in Wynne. The keynote speaker for the event was Gen. Wesley Clark, standing. Shadowing

Alex Utley, a student at Lincoln Middle Academy of Excellence, took part in a shadow day today at the school. Utley was one of about 50 students chosen to follow a teacher or staff member at the school to get a sense of what it is like to work as an adult. Woodruff Electric Corporation has purchased a Chevrolet Volt, described as an “extended range electric vehicle,” to help promote the use of American-generated electric power.
