Meeting with mayors: Area mayors met with elected county officials Wednesday in a county intergovernmental cooperation council meeting at the courthouse. The meeting was the first held under the administration of St. Francis County Judge Gary Hughes. Similar meetings are planned for the remainder of the year. Those who attended the meeting, were County Clerk Elizabeth Smith (back to camera), and continuing clockwise from left, County Treasurer Brent Ponder, Hughes mayor Donnie Mooney, Office of Emergency Services coordinator Shane Dallas, County Judge Gary Hughes, Wheatley mayor Larry Nash, County Assessor Craig Jones, Widener mayor Abron Pitts, Earnestine Broadway, with the city of Madison, Madison mayor Bobby Hardrick, Colt mayor Joe Kerr and Palestine mayor Becky Dunn. Cold day for a swim: Only the back corner of the roof on this DHL delivery van can be seen in the top photo, shortly after the driver plunged into a lake in Edgewood Monday afternoon. The driver, Neelye Harrison, 34, of Hernando, Miss., told police she was westbound on Forrest Lake Road and “messing with her scanner” when she struck the dam barrier and drove into the lake. Harrison swam to safety as emergency personnel were called to the scene where they remained until about 4:30 p.m. A local wrecker service pulled the van out of the lake.
